SEO Essentials And Keyword Strategies
by Joe Maelstrom
I have been in the SEO business for over five years and that is a long time in cyber space. Some of the tips that I am sharing with you have been learnt from others and some by my own experience. First thing to note is that netizens like it easy, they search for generic terms as the initial start for their research. Whom to target as an audience should be clear to you as an SEO expert. If the target audience is going to be the general public, then a generic choice of keywords would do, however for a more discerning audience specific keyword phrases may be required. The simplest example is of the Java, which when searched would yield results such as type of coffee, motorbike brand, computer language etc. However, if your target audience was the nerdy lot, maybe Java programming or words to that effect would have been a better choice of keyword phrase. The language of the reader is an important input for example for the English speaking world reading from top left hand corner comes naturally but for an Arabic reader it is from right to left.
Usually, an average reader loses interest after about 250 words. Therefore when planning to insert keywords, do so by starting from the top left corner and have one or two keywords in the first 250 words. Search engines typically have these parameters as the building blocks. The other parts of written text which find favor with Search Engines are the title, paragraph and sub headings. Search engines also have a preference for bold and italics compared to normally typed words. These are important parameters to factor your SEO keyword strategy. Remember, some keywords are very popular but they are also vying for competition on a search ranking list. A good keyword strategic approach would be to use the other alternative keywords, not so popular but giving an assured web page ranking. Keywords are like celebrities. They have a shelf life, their five minutes of stardom. So what was a buzzword yesterday may be out of fashion today and thus may not figure in the ranking list of search engines. Some search engines give out a search volume number on hitting a keyword. This is a useful tool in estimating what volumes can be generated by a particular keyword. Software such as Word Tracker, though a bit dated can still be used to find the popular net words. With these tips I am sure the budding SEO experts are off to a flying start.
